1. Patient Rights
A. The Right to Receive Medical Care
Patients have the right to receive appropriate healthcare services to protect and promote their own health. Their right to health shall not be infringed on grounds such as sex, age, religion, social status, or economic circumstances, and medical personnel shall not refuse care without justifiable cause.
B. The Right to Know and the Right to Self-Determination
Patients have the right to receive sufficient explanations from their attending physician, nurse, and others regarding the state of their illness, treatment methods, whether they are subject to medical research, whether organ transplantation is involved, expected outcomes such as side effects, and the cost of care, to ask detailed questions, and to decide whether to consent.
C. The Right to Confidentiality
Patients' confidentiality regarding their physical and health condition and the secrets of their private life shall not be infringed, and medical personnel and medical institutions shall not disclose or reveal such information except with the patient's consent or in cases prescribed by law, such as criminal investigations.
D. The Right to Request Consultation and Mediation
If a dispute related to medical services arises, the patient may request consultation and mediation from the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency and other such bodies.
2. Patient Responsibilities
A. The Duty of Trust and Respect Toward Medical Personnel
Patients must accurately inform medical personnel of their health-related information and must trust and respect the medical personnel's treatment plans.
B. The Duty Not to Receive Care by Improper Means
Patients must reveal their identity before receiving care and must not receive care by false or improper means, such as receiving care under another person's name.
